Error in model builder
Title
Question
Hello Oscad team,

I am trying to build a diode model according to the instructions given in your book (OSCAD: An open source EDA tool for circuit design, simulation, analysis and PCB design). I can follow the instructions correctly till Figure 8.4(b) on Page 79.

However, when I write '1N4007' in 'Enter Component name' field and click on 'OK', a window titled 'Bad input' pops up and it displays the message "Model file does not exist, please try again".

What could this be about? Can you help?

Thanks and Regards.

Hi,

You would be using an updated version of Model Builder. (We had removed some bugs from the previous version). Now you need to click on Add (and NOT New as explained in the book). When you click on Add on the Model Builder GUI, you should get a small window that says something like D1:1N4007. Now you can get edit this model by choosing D1:1N4007 and clicking in OK.
(I assume you had given the value 1N4007 to the diode in your schematic, as explained in the book).

But there is no 'Add' option in the menu. The available options in the 'File' menu of 'Ngspice Model Editor' are: 'New', 'Open', 'Import', 'Export' and 'Exit'. The only other menu entry (other than 'File') is 'Help'.

Ok, then you are using the old version itself. I suggest you re-install Oscad. Save your projects in a backup directory and then install Oscad. We have some bug fixes in the current version. Please let me know if you still have any issue.

Should I re-install old version or install current version?

You need to install the latest installer available on the web. If you dont want to install Oscad again, then just replace the Modellibrary and ModelEditor folders in the OSCAD folder with the ones available in the latest installer. Let me know if this works. (Take a backup of it before you replace)

I suggest you re-install Oscad using the latest version available on the web. That will be easier.

I installed the latest version and now the model-building is working fine. Thanks
