When we divide the geometry into two blocks(tutorial: multi-block meshing of 2D geometry in OpenFOAM), are we creating a physical surface between them(the two blocks)?

It depends on the problem you are intending to solve. For the current multiblock tutorial, we aren't creating any physical surface

Not in This tutorial. Due to the same vertices, it will not create any physical surface.
