Feed Tray Location
Title
Question
In the tutorial we are giving feed stage location to stage 9 in stream stage associations and giving column feed port to #5(under feeds section) initially in the tutorial. Why are we giving different locations? what is the  difference between these two inputs?

Answers:

Feed ports are the different connection ports that are available in the Distillation Column to connect the material stream with the column. Instead of connecting the feed stream to column feed port 5, if you connect the stream to feed port 1, it won't make any difference. It is just for visual representation. All you have to ensure is that you are connecting all the necessary feed stream to the column feed port connection points.

On the other hand, feed stage location is an important parameter that you have found out from the shortcut simulation. Changing the feed stage location will have an impact on the composition of the distillate and bottoms. In other words changing the feed stage location will change the purity of the product.
