Preparation of acetate buffer
Title
Question
In the buffer table, 0.1 M CH3COOH and CH3COONa are used. In the experiment 0.5 M CH3COOH and CH3COONa are used. Can we perform the experiment with 0.1 M solutions and get same result?

Answers:

Hi,
When we perform the same experiment with 0.1 M Acetic acid and 0.1 M Sodium acetate, we get the acetate buffer of pH 3.67.
Using 0.5 M Acetic acid and 0.5 M Sodium acetate the pH of the acetate buffer was 3.66.

So there is insignificant change in the pH of the solution

But buffer capacity increases with increase in the concentration.
