How to select a portion is not explained.  Can you please explain it?

Do you have to use the Selection Tool?  How to use this tool is not explained in this or in the previous tutorial in this series.

Answers:

By default the selection tool will be selected.
If we wish to select any portion of an audio, we have to click on the start point. 
By holding the left mouse button, drag the cursor till the end point. 
We can notice that the selected portion gets highlighted.
