Why is the flow turbulent?

Answers:
Critical Reynold number for pipe flows is 2300. Which means that flow is no more laminar for Re > 2300. The critical Reynolds number for channel flows is considered to be of the same order as that of pipe flows and since the Reynolds number is 2 million in the case considered in this tutorial, it is well above the critical Reynolds number and hence the flow is turbulent.
