Answers:

The mesh has been refined at the top and bottom faces due to the defined expansion ratios in the blockMeshDict. For block 1 (bottom block), the expansion ratio along y axis has been defined to be 10. This means the width of the end cell, along y direction, is 10 times that of the start cell. That is, the top most cell of block 1 (near the centerline of the entire geometry) is 10 times as wide as the one nearest to the bottom wall. The width of the cells from cell near the wall to the cell near the centre increases and follows a geometric progression. Which is why the cell widths increase gradually from bottom to top of block 1 (bottom block). Similarly, for block 2, the expansion ratio is 0.1 and the same explanation follows.
