Hello,

There could be a problem with your internet connection, you need internet connectivity to import molecules from database.

If internet connectivity is not an issue then it could be the database itself, Avogadro connects to the below database to import molecules. There are reports on net that the website moved from http to https fromat.

https://cactus.nci.nih.gov/chemical/structure

Please uninstall the old version of Avogadro and install the latest version, in the latest version they would have resolved the issue.

There are alternative ways to view the molecule, You can go to Build> Insert> Fragments, there are many molecules here in cml format. You can select and  view on screen, You can also edit these structures. The subsequent tutorials  in the series will help you with this.
Please try and let us know if you still have the problem.

Xylene.cml file is provided in the code files link located below the player for this tutorial. Please download and extract the file. Open this file in Avogadro and proceed to complete this tutorial
