Question
What is swap space in Linux?

Linux General None min None sec 03-08-19, 3:30 p.m. Ganeshmukati

Answers:

Swap space on a hard disk is used as the virtual memory.

When your system needs more memory, inactive memory pages are written to the disk.  It is a substitute of physical memory (RAM).

Whenever your computer runs short of physical memory it uses (swap) virtual memory and stores information in memory on disk.

Note: Assigning higher swap memory will not lead to faster execution of a program and overall increase the performance of your PC. Because it is not as fast as ram (not even close). It is your hard disk space which will be used as RAM(sort of, not actually) when your actual RAM isn't enough or is running out.
